# Block reference overview

> Attio Workflows has 11 triggers and 33 steps. Each block has its own reference page with inputs, outputs, credit cost, and a worked example.

Attio Workflows has 11 triggers and 33 steps. Each block has its own reference page with inputs, outputs, credit cost, and a worked example. Every workflow you build is assembled from these blocks. Each reference page follows the same fixed layout, so once you have read one you can skim the rest.

Credit costs follow one rule. Triggers, logic, and lookups are free. Writes and external calls cost 1 credit, and AI is priced by the tokens it uses. The [Credits & pricing explained](/reference/credits-and-pricing) page carries the full table and the per-plan allowances. Every block page links to it rather than repeating it.

## Triggers

A trigger is the event that starts a workflow run. Every trigger is free. If you are unsure which one fits your case, read [Choosing the right trigger](/explanation/triggers).

## Agents

An agent block runs an AI agent against your workspace. Its tool access stays read-only, gated by the "Run as" permission model. That means the agent can read your data but cannot change it.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Custom agent" icon="bot" href="/reference/agents/custom-agent">
    Runs a configured AI agent with read-only tools over your data.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Web agent" icon="globe" href="/reference/agents/web-agent">
    Runs an AI agent that researches the public web.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## AI

An AI block applies a model to a record or to text. Each one is priced by the tokens it uses, not at a flat rate.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Classify record" icon="tags" href="/reference/ai/classify-record">
    Assigns a record to one of your defined categories.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Classify text" icon="tag" href="/reference/ai/classify-text">
    Assigns a text input to one of your defined categories.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Summarize record" icon="text" href="/reference/ai/summarize-record">
    Writes a short summary of a record and its activity.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Records

A record block reads or writes the records in an object. Each write costs 1 credit. Reads are free.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Create record" icon="square-plus" href="/reference/records/create-record">
    Creates a new record in an object.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Create or update record" icon="copy-plus" href="/reference/records/create-or-update-record">
    Upserts a record, matching on an attribute you choose.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Update record" icon="square-pen" href="/reference/records/update-record">
    Sets attribute values on an existing record.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Find records" icon="search" href="/reference/records/find-records">
    Looks up records that match a filter, with no credit cost.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Lists

A list block reads or writes list entries. List entries are not the same as records. See [Records vs list entries](/explanation/records-vs-list-entries) for the distinction.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Add record to list" icon="list-plus" href="/reference/lists/add-record-to-list">
    Adds a record to a list as a new entry.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Update list entry" icon="list-restart" href="/reference/lists/update-list-entry">
    Sets list-specific attribute values on an entry.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Delete list entry" icon="list-x" href="/reference/lists/delete-list-entry">
    Removes an entry from a list without deleting the record.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Find list entries" icon="list-filter" href="/reference/lists/find-list-entries">
    Looks up list entries that match a filter, with no credit cost.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Sequences

A sequence is an automated series of outreach emails. A sequence block adds a person to an Attio sequence or takes them out of one.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Enroll in sequence" icon="mail-plus" href="/reference/sequences/enroll-in-sequence">
    Adds a person to an email sequence.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Exit from sequence" icon="mail-x" href="/reference/sequences/exit-from-sequence">

  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Tasks

A task block creates a task or marks one complete.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Create task" icon="square-check-big" href="/reference/tasks/create-task">
    Creates a task linked to a record, with an assignee and due date.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Complete task" icon="check-check" href="/reference/tasks/complete-task">
    Marks an existing task as done.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Calculations

A calculation block transforms data inside a run. Most of these are free logic blocks. To reference their outputs in later steps, see the [Variables and expressions reference](/reference/variable-syntax).

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Execute code" icon="code" href="/reference/calculations/execute-code">
    Runs a sandboxed code snippet; cost is variable (complexity-based).
  </Card>

  <Card title="Adjust time" icon="calendar-clock" href="/reference/calculations/adjust-time">
    Shifts a date or time by an offset you specify.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Aggregate values" icon="sigma" href="/reference/calculations/aggregate-values">

    Returns a random number within a range you set.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

A condition block decides which branch a run takes. All condition blocks are free.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Filter" icon="filter" href="/reference/conditions/filter">
    Stops the run unless the record matches your criteria.
  </Card>

  <Card title="If" icon="git-branch" href="/reference/conditions/if">

  <Card title="Switch" icon="split" href="/reference/conditions/switch">
    Routes the run down one of several labelled branches.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Delays

A delay block pauses a run. It can wait for a fixed duration or hold until a set moment. Both are free.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Loop" icon="repeat-2" href="/reference/utilities/loop">
    Runs a set of blocks once for each item in a collection.

## Third-party blocks

Connected apps add their own triggers and actions to your block library. These include Slack, Outreach, Mailchimp, Mixmax, and Typeform. Newer ecosystem blocks cover Webflow, Notion, and Linear.
