The glossary defines the Attio Workflows engine terms and go-to-market vocabulary this handbook uses, from fit and intent to Run as. Concept and guide pages link here on first mention instead of re-explaining a term in place. Every definition appears in one alphabetical list. The engine terms describe how the workflow runtime behaves. The go-to-market terms name the language the builds are written in.

Block

A block is a single step in a workflow. A block can be a trigger, a logic or condition block, a data block, an artificial-intelligence (AI) block, or an integration block. The full catalog of blocks is the block reference overview.

Credit

A credit is the unit a workflow consumes when it runs. Each block is charged separately, based on the work that block does. The canonical Credits & pricing explained page lists every block’s cost.

Engagement

Engagement is one of the three scoring dimensions. It measures your own touches with a record, such as email opens, replies, and product usage. Keeping engagement separate from fit and intent is what makes a lead score explainable. See Score leads into explainable bands.

Fit

Fit is one of the three scoring dimensions. It measures firmographics, the fixed traits of an account such as industry and company size. Fit answers one question: is this the kind of company we sell to? In a good lead score, fit stays distinct from intent and engagement.

GTM engineer

A GTM engineer (go-to-market engineer) is the technical operator who builds these systems. This handbook is written for that reader. The role blends RevOps, data, and automation work that once lived across several teams.

ICP / ECP

ICP (ideal customer profile) describes the company you sell to. ECP (engaged or ideal customer profile) describes the same idea at the person level. Most qualification logic comes down to one question: does this record match the ICP?

Intent

Intent is one of the three scoring dimensions. It measures buying signals, such as research activity or a fresh funding round. Intent answers one question: is this account in-market right now? In a good lead score, intent stays distinct from fit and engagement.

Legacy workflows

Legacy workflows are the previous automation engine that the June 2026 release replaces. You can no longer create new legacy workflows; existing ones keep running, and Attio says sunset notice will come “well in advance.” See Migrate legacy workflows.

NRR / expansion

NRR (net revenue retention) measures how much revenue an existing customer base grows or shrinks over a period. Expansion is the set of upsell motions that drive it. Usage thresholds, renewal watches, and health scores are the signals workflows act on to protect NRR.

Pipeline hygiene

Pipeline hygiene is the practice of keeping the pipeline honest. That means flagging stale deals, deduping records, and handing off ownership, usually on a schedule. The Stale-deal sweep is a representative build.

PQL / SQL / MQL

A PQL (product-qualified lead), SQL (sales-qualified lead), or MQL (marketing-qualified lead) is a record that has crossed the bar to deserve a sales touch. That bar is just a Filter condition.

Record vs list entry

A record is the underlying object, such as a company, a person, or a deal. A list entry is that record’s membership of a list. It carries its own list-specific attributes. Blocks are strict about which of the two they accept. See Records vs list entries.

Routing

Routing is the act of assigning a record to the right owner. You can route by territory, segment, round-robin, or score. A worked example is Inbound routing by territory and seniority.

Run

A run is one execution of a workflow against one trigger event. You inspect runs in run history. See Runs, debugging & publishing.

Run as

Run as is the permission model that decides whose access a workflow runs with. That includes any AI agent block inside it. Agent blocks access workspace data read-only via the “Run as” model. See Permissions & workflow access.

Sequence

A sequence is Attio’s outbound email cadence that contacts a record over a series of steps. Workflows can Enroll in sequence and Exit from sequence to start and stop that cadence.

Signal

A signal is an external event worth reacting to, such as a funding round, a job change, a product action, or a form fill. Signal-based outbound is sometimes called “warm” outbound. It triggers a play off a signal instead of working a cold list.

Trigger

A trigger is the event that starts a run: a record change, a schedule, a webhook, or a manual command. The trigger you choose shapes everything that follows. See Choosing the right trigger.

Variable

A variable is an output from an earlier block that a later block references, often written as {Field name}. Variables are how data flows between blocks. See Variables & data passing.

Waterfall enrichment

Waterfall enrichment calls data providers cheapest-first and stops at the first hit. That way you never pay two vendors for the same field. The pattern is built end to end in Cheapest-first enrichment waterfall.

Workflow

A workflow is an event-driven automation that runs inside Attio. A trigger starts it, and step blocks do the work. Workflows are the subject of this whole handbook. See What are Attio Workflows?.
