Inputs
Outputs
Reference the updated entry’s data in a later block as
{{ steps.update_list_entry.list_entry }}.
Behavior
The block writes the supplied attributes to one list entry per run, then returns the updated entry. It edits only the list attributes that live on the entry, such as stage and service-level agreement (SLA) status. The parent record’s object attributes are out of scope. Those belong to an Update record block instead. See Records vs list entries for where each attribute lives. The Entry input must resolve to a single list entry. The block does not start from a record. So when your workflow holds a record, resolve its entry first. This includes the record that fired a trigger. Use a Find list entries lookup, then pass the matched entry here. The Replace existing values toggle changes how multi-select attributes are written. When it is off, the new values are added to whatever the entry already holds. When it is on, the new values replace the existing set. The toggle has no effect on single-value attributes such as a stage or a date, which a write always overwrites.Gotchas
- A record passed where an entry belongs fails the run. The block reads a list entry, not a record. So wiring a record into the Entry input errors out instead of guessing the entry. This applies to the trigger record too. Resolve the entry first with Find list entries, then pass its output here.
- Updating a watched list attribute can retrigger list workflows. A List entry updated trigger watches one attribute. Writing to that attribute starts another run. That run can chain into a loop if it writes back. Scope the watched trigger to a different attribute, or guard the downstream workflow with an If condition that stops the chain.
- Replace existing values silently changes multi-select results. Left off, the block appends to a multi-select attribute rather than replacing it. A “set the tags” intent then quietly accumulates old values. Turn Replace existing values on when the new set should fully overwrite the old one.
Examples
Updating an inbound entry’s owner and SLA status
A round-robin routing workflow assigns each new inbound lead and stamps its service-level status on the pipeline entry. The build uses three blocks. A Round robin block picks the next rep. A Find list entries block resolves the lead’s pipeline entry. Then Update list entry writes both fields.
The Acme Corp entry on the Inbound pipeline list is assigned to Priya Sharma with its SLA status set to
Awaiting first touch, while the company record itself is unchanged.
Replacing the tags on a list entry
A cleanup workflow loops over stale Sales pipeline entries and rewrites their tags. The new set fully replaces the old one rather than piling on. Replace existing values is on, so the multi-select tag attribute is overwritten on each entry the loop passes in.Renewal and Priority tags. Any earlier tags are dropped because Replace existing values is on.
